Amber Rubarth won the Grand Prize in this year’s NPR Mountain Stage New Song Contest, giving her the great opportunity to record her newest release with Grammy-Award winning producer Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Kings of Leon). The album is set for release on August 23, 2011 followed by nationally syndicated performance on NPR’s Mountain Stage. Her songs have attracted enthusiastic praise from NPR's All Songs Considered, The Huffington Post, BBC Radio, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and a Sun Studio Session now airing nation-wide on PBS.
"With songs both quirky and endearingly candid, Amber Rubarth is a refreshing talent on the rise. As illustrated on her third and latest LP, Good Mystery, she complements a gentle folk/pop vibe with a storyteller's engagement and the unassuming, often akward charm of a girl you wished lived next door." -BlogCritics.
At 21 years old, Amber decided to put aside her career as a chainsaw sculptor in Nevada in order to pursue music. She taught herself guitar, started playing open mics, and began touring throughout the US, Europe and Japan. New fans told their friends, and soon her songs had received over 1.5 million plays on MySpace. Many concerts began to sell out and she was asked to share the stage with such greats as Loudon Wainwright III, Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Colin Hay, Martin Sexton and Lisa Loeb. Rubarth now composes for films as well, most recently composing all music with Paul Brill for the highly acclaimed Sundance Film Festival winner "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work." She is also one half of Brooklyn's buzz band The Paper Raincoat, an iTunes Indie Spotlightfeature.

Hello friend! So I was clearing out brush leading to a secret waterfall last week and picked up a new friend... her name is poison ivy and we became quite attached very quickly. She is on her way out now and I'm left happy and inspired as ever, soaking in sunshine and music and lots of joyfulness (and pink calamine lotion). Flying this Thursday to CALIFORNIA to play house concerts (yippee!), a festival in NEVADA (woo!), and a big outdoor concert in Los Angeles! Then eastbound to NEW YORK CITY for a concert at the World Financial Center Plaza, followed by NPR's MOUNTAIN STAGE (yes yes yes!) in WEST VIRGINIA with... John Oates! Pinch me! Would love to see you, and your friends and pets and neighbors. Last week I was a big introvert and got all my looking inward out, now I'm in full-blown friend mode. Come play! Hello lovely friends! I moved north of the city, happily surrounded by trees.... been waking to chipmunks wrestling in the yard and newborn deer and fuzzy little goslings popping up all over. Last night I fell asleep with the big moon shining off the river (like a national guitar) and fireflies lighting up and disappearing like little miracles. Nature never gets old.
Last week was a treat with the NYC show turning into an ACCIDENTAL EXTRAVAGANZA shared with many of my favorite musicians / songwriters / humans ever. Thanks to Rockwood Music Hall & Modern Vintage, we have live audio and video which will be online soon. You will flip out when you hear everyone, so many fun collaborations... in order of appearance: Threeds, Paul Brill, Lisa Jaeggi, Jeff Taylor, Nate Campany, Rosi Golan, The Animators, Adam Levy, Ian Axel, Jason Mraz, J Blynn, and Alex Wong. Here's a video courtesy of Rebel Spirit Music of our last song of the night.
The EUROPE TOUR was magnifique! Thank you to our new friends! And Tim Snider for joining! And to all you schnippseners and claque-de-doiters! More photos and videos soon.
